Bell Gardens High Sets High Standards

Plays in semi -finals again only to lose on penalty kicks 2009 and 2010

The Bell Gardens High Soccer Team , got to the semi- finals once again in 2010 as they did in 2009 only to lose on penalty kicks. However, this season was a very special one defensively. The  defensive unit recorded 20 shutouts during the season and did not allow a goal during the 2010 Div. 2  playoffs. The defense was led by Sen.  Goalkeeper Leovardo Martinez who only allowed 9 goals in 26 games for the lancers and  sen. sweeper Capt. Luis Rameriz who was Named the MVP  defender 2010 for the Almont League. Leovardo martinez and Luis Rameriz were named 2nd and 1st team all CIF respectively in 2009. Coach Brenes was very proud of the teams success in 2010 , but commended how furstrated he was the last  two seasons, on knocking on door and not getting in. Congratulations B.G. for a very good year!!!!!!!

Boys Division 2 Update #2

A packed, rain make-up week proved to be a bit much for some Top Ten teams.  While there were no changes in the Top 4, 5-10 saw substantial changes.

Santa Barbara remains #1 with an overall record of 21-0-1 and 2 league wins last week.  Santa Ana maintains the #2 spot with a 14-2-3 record and 2 league wins as well, outscoring their opponents 8-0 last week.  Valencia(Placentia) remains #3 with a 16-2-2 record.  With their 2 league wins last week they outscored their opponents 11-1.  Riverside Poly holds the #4 spot with a 16-3-2 and 3 league wins last week.  Knight moved up to #5 with 3 league wins last week.  Palmdale, #6, is keeping pace with Knight in the Golden League.  Palmdale will take their 18-2-2 record into their showdown with Knight Tuesday at 4:30pm.  This will have big implications for who wins the Golden League crown.  Bell Gardens moves up to #7 with an 11-1-5 record and 1st place in the Almont League.  A loss to La Habra moved Buena Park down to #8 this week.  Ventura moved back into the rankings at #8 as well with an 11-3-5 record.  Ventura and Santa Barbara square off in the Channel League Tuesday as well at 6pm. Rounding out the Top Ten is El Modena. El Modena began the week undefeated and ranked #5, but suffered a tie to Brea Olinda and a loss to Canyon(Anaheim). They look to rebound this week.

Other teams receiving votes: Arlington, Rancho Verde, Diamond Bar, Glendora, Saddleback, Littlerock.
