Boys Division 1 Top Ten Update 2

 Boys Division 1 Update #2

There were 6 losses and a tie by teams in the top ten last week, so there were some changes this week.

#1 Millikan maintained its position as they won three games this past week and have a division record 19 wins.  #2 Mater Dei tied its only game this week, but maintains its #2 position as both the teams immediately below them (San Clemente and West) loss and they are still ahead of JSerra in the Trinity League.  #3 JSerra moves up from #5 as they beat Servite on the road.  #4 West received their first loss to third place in the Bay League Leuzinger High, while West beat Redondo and Peninsula.  #5 San Clemente lost to Dana Hills and beat Tesoro, so they dropped two spots.  #6 Mira Costa beat Leuzinger, Redondo, and Palos Verdes to move into a tie with West in the Bay League, but West still has the head to head.  #7 El Toro keeps winning as they beat Foothill and Woodbridge and move up one spot.  #8 Edison drops two spots as they lost to Los Alamitos and they beat Fountain Valley.  #9 Los Osos stays at #9 (no games reported this week).  #10 Royal moves into the top ten for the first time this year as they have moved into a first place tie in the Marmonte League with wins over Westlake, Calabasas, and Agoura. #10 Mission Viejo also moves into the top ten.  They are currently tied with San Clemente with the lead in the South Coast League.  Mission Viejo beat Aliso and tied Tesoro this week.

Other teams receiving votes and just missing the top ten:  Loyola (Mission 14-6-5), Harvard Westlake (Mission 15-5-3), Esperanza (Sunset 9-3-1), Los Alamitos (Sunset 15-5-5), Servite (Trinity 13-4-3).

Girls Division 1 update number 1

Randy Dodge

As we get closer to CIF division one girls playoffs San Clemente, Esperanza and El Toro are starting to separate themselves from all the other teams.  Esperanza is undeafted in league and preseason. By playing some of the top teams in the division is starting to run away with the number one ranking.  San Clemente after a slow start to the season has established itself as a contender to three peat as the CIF and Regional champion.  They have all but locked up first in the the toughest league in the country and only need a point from their remaining three games.

El toro and Capo round out the top four.  El toro in the difficult Seaview league should take the number one spot with a wins this week.  Capo after a long spell of not making the playoffs are on the verge of doing so if it can pull of some two wins in their last 4 games. Aliso and Capo are tied for second in the South Coast league with Capo having the head to head edge. Aliso is tie KING and will win that award at the end of the season.

Santa Margarita and Mater Dei will be battling out in the top ten this week and will establish who will be the number one out of the Trinity league.  Both have established themselves as legit title contenders.

LB Wilson is in the drivers seat of the Moore league and are one of the top teams in Division one. Los Alamitos who are with in striking distance of Eperanza and was a CIF and Regional finalists last year will being making things happen in the last two weeks of the season.

A couple of new comers are making a lot of noise with undeafted seasons  Palos Verdes out of the Bay League. Also Murrieta Valley and Los Osos sitting in first in their respective Leagues.

Please get your scores in and continue to vote!!!!

Boys Division 1 Update #1

The combination of rain and finals took away many games this week for the Division 1 Leagues.  The only change in the top ten was a switch in spots for Mater Dei and San Clemente.  Mater Dei jumps to #2 while San Clemente dropped to #3 as they had a tie with Capistrano Valley and they beat Aliso this week.  Everyone else in the top ten, either did not play or they won their league games.  Here is a closer look at the top ten. 1) Long Beach Millikan was CIF Finalist last year and has the most wins in the division with 17.  2) Mater Dei only has one loss on the season, they lead the tough Trinity League with a 3-0 record, while beating both Servite and JSerra.  3) San Clemente is at the top of the South Coast League and they have a solid non-league win over #8 El Toro.  4) West Torrance is the division’s only undefeated team and leads the Bay League, they also have non-league wins against Bosco, Aliso, and Tesoro.  5)JSerra is second in the Trinity League.  They have many players back from last years top 4 seeded team.  Their only losses are to Servite (Tournament), Mater Dei, and Chapparall, all top teams in their respective divisions. 6) Edison has 16 wins and leads the Sunset League.  They have non-league wins against Mission Viejo and Loyola.  7) Mira Costa’s only loss of the season is to #4 West.  They also beat Tesoro and tied Santa Ana Valley.  8) El Toro is the defending CIF champion with 16 wins so far this year and tops of the Sea View League.  Since losing their first two games of the year, they are 16-2 (16-4 overall).  9)  Los Osos only has one lose on the year and is a top the Baseline League.  10) Servite and Harvard Westlake.  The two teams tied back in December 1-1.  Servite won the prestigious Oceanside Tournament beating Watsonville, Bellarmine, and #5 JSerra.  Harvard Westlake tied Santa Ana Valley and is leading the Mission League.
